49th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting 2011 Concludes Jan. 7, 2011 in Orlando, FL

Every year, AIAA holds the Aerospace Sciences Meeting, the largest aerospace related symposium in the world, on the second week of January. The 49th ASM was held from January 4th to 7th, 2011, in Orlando, Florida, which was also the venue for the two years prior to this one. In the years prior to that, the ASM was held in Reno, Nevada. In 2011, the 50th ASM is set to move to Nashville, Tennessee.

Being the first and the largest AIAA conference of the year, all the various aerospace related fields are represented by speakers from academia, industry and government. However, the 2011 meeting was reported to have fewer presenters, apparently due to the lagging economy, with many companies making cut backs.

I’ll put together a summary of some of the more interesting papers presented related to detonation engines, plasma propulsion, etc.

Photos from the meeting are available for viewing at this link here. One can also go to the Facebook page of AIAA to view them.
